Band 8 Sample Answer

The bar chart illustrates the proportion of adults belonging to four age groups who attended an annual dental check-up between 2015 and 2025.
Overall, the percentage of people attending these appointments increased steadily across all age categories. The oldest group consistently accounted for the highest proportion, whereas adults aged 18–29 recorded the lowest figures throughout the period.

In 2015, approximately 35% of adults aged 18–29 attended a dental examination, representing just over a third of this age group. The corresponding figure for those aged 30–44 stood at around 55%, or slightly more than half. By comparison, the proportions were considerably higher among older adults, at approximately 70% and 78% for the 45–59 and 60+ categories, respectively. By 2025, attendance among the youngest group had climbed to around 55%, while the 30–44 category had risen to approximately 68%.

 Asimilar upward trend was observed among the two older groups. The figure for adults aged 45–59 increased from roughly 70% to 85%, whereas the oldest category grew from approximately 78% to just over 90%. Notably, the latter represented nine in ten adults by the final year. Although both categories experienced growth, the 60+ group maintained its leading position. In comparison with the youngest participants, its attendance rate was approximately 35 percentage points higher in 2025.

* Increased significantly – risen considerably, grown rapidly

Band 8 Sample Answer – Following Your Double Question Template

The growing popularity of fitness centres is a topic of heavy discussion in today's society. In this treatise, I will deliberate about the reasons behind the rising number of gym memberships and also rationalize why I believe that this trend is beneficial with examples.

Starting with first point, greater awareness of health and fitness is a major reason behind this increase. Owing to the widespread availability of health information through social media and medical campaigns, people have become more conscious of the importance of regular exercise. To illustrate with an example, individuals who previously led sedentary lifestyles may now enrol in fitness programmes after learning about the risks of obesity and heart disease. Another interesting point is the growing number of modern fitness facilities. If people have access to affordable memberships, flexible timings and professional trainers, they are more likely to exercise consistently.

Going further in the monograph, although gym memberships can be expensive and excessive training may cause injuries, but according to me, this is a good trend  overall. Because regular physical activity strengthens the body, it reduces the likelihood of lifestyle-related illnesses. As a result, individuals may enjoy better long-term health. Besides this, exercise can improve emotional well-being. Due to the release of mood-enhancing chemicals during physical activity, people may experience reduced stress and better sleep. To instantiate, busy professionals who exercise after work often find it easier to manage daily pressure.

To sum up, the foregoing discussion not only explains the reasons behind the growing popularity of fitness centres, but it also justifies why I believe this is a beneficial trend because of its physical and psychological advantages.

* Apologise for your action.

* Explain how it happened.

* Suggest how you can make amends.

Band 8 Sample Answer – Casual and Conversational

Dear Alex,

Oh, I honestly don't know how to start this! I'm really sorry about what happened with Sarah's personal information. I know I shouldn't have shared something that wasn't mine to tell, and now I'm feeling pretty awful about the whole situation!

It all happened so casually when we were chatting last weekend. You asked me how Sarah was getting on, and I ended up mentioning something she'd told me in confidence. At the time, I didn't think much of it because I thought it would stay between us. But somehow, the story has made its way around our circle, and now more people know about it. I feel terrible because I never meant for things to get this far!

Can we please try to sort this out? I'd really appreciate it if you could speak to anyone you've mentioned it to and ask them not to pass it on. I'm also going to have a proper chat with Sarah, apologise face-to-face and explain exactly what happened. Do you think there's anything else we could do to put things right?

I really value our friendship, and I hope you know that I'm taking responsibility for my part in this. I've definitely learnt my lesson about keeping private things private!

Anyway, please let me know what you think.

Take care,
Sam
