IELTS Writing — 15 OCTOBER 2026 EXAM REVIEW

India / Indonesia | Band 8 Sample Answers

1. ACADEMIC WRITING TASK 1 — TABLE

Question: The table compares the tensile strength and moisture absorption of four textile fibres.

Sample Answer (approximately 175 words)

The table presents a comparison of four textile materials in terms of their resistance to pulling forces and their ability to absorb moisture.

Overall, flax demonstrated the greatest tensile strength, whereas wool recorded the lowest figure. In contrast, the latter absorbed the highest proportion of moisture, while nylon exhibited the smallest percentage.

Regarding tensile strength, flax ranked first at 900 MPa, followed by nylon at 700 MPa. Cotton occupied third position, with a measurement of 350 MPa, while wool registered only 150 MPa. Therefore, flax was six times as strong as wool according to the figures provided.

A different pattern emerged in moisture absorption because wool led the category at 16%, followed by flax at 12%. Cotton , on contrary, recorded a comparatively moderate figure of 8.5%, whereas nylon absorbed just 4%, making it the least absorbent material among the four. Interestingly, the strongest fibre did not display the lowest absorption rate; instead, nylon combined relatively high tensile strength with minimal moisture retention.

2. ACADEMIC WRITING TASK 2 — TO WHAT EXTENT DO YOU AGREE OR DISAGREE?

Question: Some people believe that every adult should be required to learn basic first aid.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Sample Answer (approximately 270 words)

Few think that all grown individuals should be obliged to acquire elementary emergency-response skills. I predominantly agree with this view, and the primary purpose of this monograph is to illustrate my position with relevant examples.

Beginning with my main argument, the first key point is the ability to respond effectively during medical emergencies. Due to the unpredictable nature of accidents, having practical knowledge of immediate assistance can prevent a condition from worsening before professional help arrives. To rephrase, a person who knows how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation may significantly improve the survival chances of someone experiencing cardiac arrest. Another important justification is the development of community responsibility. As trained individuals can recognise warning signs and provide appropriate initial support, it leads to safer homes, workplaces and public spaces. For instance, a parent who understands how to respond to choking can act promptly rather than panic while waiting for an ambulance.

Exploring the minor viewpoint, one noteworthy argument is the inconvenience associated with compulsory training. Rather than treating every individual identically, critics may argue that mandatory courses require time, money and periodic refresher sessions, resulting in additional pressure on working adults. Due to this, authorities should provide affordable training programmes, flexible schedules and accessible community workshops so that participation remains manageable.

In conclusion, although compulsory emergency training may require additional time and resources, I mainly agree that its potential to save lives and strengthen public safety makes it a worthwhile responsibility.

3. GENERAL TRAINING WRITING TASK 1 — FORMAL LETTER

Question: You have decided to continue a family tradition that has been important to your family business for generations.

Write a letter to your staff. In your letter:

Describe the tradition.

Explain why it matters to your family business.

Tell your staff how you intend to continue it.

Sample Answer (approximately 175 words)

Dear Team,

I am writing to share an important decision regarding the future direction of our family business and to explain how we will preserve a long-standing practice that has shaped our reputation.

For more than three generations, our family has maintained the tradition of personally checking the quality of every product before it reaches a customer. My grandfather introduced this practice when the business first opened, and my parents continued it as the company expanded. Despite changes in technology and production methods, this commitment has remained central to our identity.

This custom matters because it reflects our dedication to reliability, honesty and customer satisfaction. Many clients have continued supporting us for years because they trust the standards we maintain. Preserving this principle will therefore help us protect our reputation while building lasting relationships with future customers.

Going forward, I intend to retain the final quality inspection process while introducing modern equipment to improve efficiency. I will also arrange training sessions so that every team member understands the standards expected of them.

Thank you for your continued contribution to our success. I look forward to working with you to carry this valuable legacy forward.

Best Regards,
Sam Curren
