6 DECEMBER IELTS CHEAT SHEET
🎧 LISTENING —
What to Focus On
Section 1: spelling + numbers
Section 2: distractors (“not Monday… actually Wednesday”)
Section 3: synonyms of academic words
Section 4: nouns, percentages, processes
Strategy
1. Predict words before hearing
Look at the gap → decide if it’s a noun / adjective / number / verb.
Your brain catches the sound faster.
2. For Section 2 MCQs (rules/directions)
Listen for:
“…but, however, actually, instead…” → the real answer comes after this.
3. Matching (Section 3)
Match based on attitude words:
support / doubt / interest / concern / reluctant / enthusiastic
4. Section 4: Science lecture
Write only keywords, not full sentences.
Example: “renewable materials → durable, low waste, 1970s, bamboo fibres”.
High-value Vocabulary to Recognise
membership
renewal
deposit
assignment roles
renewable materials
durability
transport links
Mini Practice Task (matching the prediction)
You will hear two students planning group roles for a project. Assign A–E to the student names.
Focus on attitude → not just content.

📘 READING —
What to Focus On
Passage 1: factual animal behaviour
Passage 2: invention history
Passage 3: argument about globalisation
Strategy
1. T/F/NG formula:
True = same idea
False = opposite
NG = can’t be checked
If ANY part of the statement is missing → NG.
2. Matching Information (P2)
Scan ONLY first sentences → writers introduce their point there.
3. MCQs (P3)
Underline:
“main idea, purpose, reason, effect”
Look for paragraphs with “however, on the other hand, therefore”.
Traps
Names (P2) appear many times → but only ONE line actually matches the idea.
“Always / never / only / must” → often FALSE.
Similar words ≠ same meaning.
“Increase in interest” ≠ “increase in sales”.
Mini Prediction-Based Practice
Passage on communication inventions.
What was the greatest impact of early telegraphs?
A) Faster trade
B) Cheaper communication
C) Social connection
D) Political unity
(Read the paragraph → find author’s opinion.)
